Potholes and our Region
Potholes have been ever increasing in and around our region, causing hazardous conditions for motorists and expensive repairs to vehicles.
Potholes are caused by water seeping into pavement and asphalt cracks. This water expands inside of the pavement as it freezes, creating a weak patch. A pothole begins to form when cars drive over this weak patch, or when freeze-thaw cycles extend the damage.
ROCCI has reached out to JRA – Johannesburg Roads Agency – which covers our Regional Area to urgently address and action sections that have been reported to us, as well as put forward the many roads we ourselves have travelled and made note of.
The JRA’s core competencies are the planning, design, construction, operation, control, rehabilitation and maintenance of the roads and storm water infrastructure in the City of Johannesburg. The main responsibilities include the construction and maintenance of bridges, culverts, traffic signals, traffic signal systems, footways, road signage and road markings.
