ROCCI’s Potjiekos 2017 a day to Remember!

ROCCI Potjiekos 21st July 2017

In the darkness of the crisp morning of the 21st July, Black eagle opened its gates, welcoming contestants from ROCCI and the West Rand, all in anticipation for the day to start.

Gazebos, went up, props, rocket ships, zama-zama-tents, a witches coven and more stalls with spectacular displays went up, as contestants got ready for the upcoming competition.

The atmosphere jovial and as the sun rose, contestants were treated by Black eagle with hot delicious croissants, muffins and tea and then a little later delicious toasted sarmies. Black eagle’s standard quality of food and service throughout the day was absolutely excellent.

The Judges arrived to inspect all raw ingredients, as Cobus Visser  of Blanaced Thinking and his team, set us his amazing team building station, which included, a lego fire walk as well as a platform of broken glass. Later the contestants walked and participated in this wonder course, and even the ROCCI staff and Exco board were pulled into doing this daring challenge.

Soon the cooking aromas of Potjie-pots filled the air, as the competition started, live music, entertainment, team building and the contestants, all busy networking, meeting each other and visiting each other’s stalls was well underway. Then Two Oakes Beer van pulled up, and the beer garden opened, with their delectable range of drafts had all the participants talking about the quality and excellence in their variety of beers on offer. The most popular beer was the “ Blondie” beer, which is all about having an easy drinking, crisp and clear refreshing drink on a hot South African day. This Real Beer is made to be a slightly malty with hit of nuts, not to bitter and clear beer with a moderate carbonation level and a mild 4.5 % ABV it with the best sexy legs in town.

The other popular beer is an Irish Red Ale that was designed for One Okes First Lady. She complained that most beers are too bitter and too fizzy. Numerous tests brews later we cracked the nod and knew we have a Real Beer that will not only sit well with the Ladies but also connect with Beer drinkers that wants an easy drinking session beer. Caramel aftertaste, low carbonation and 4.5 % ABV it calls for another. See their website for the wide variety of delicious beers they have to offer, its like no other beers around.

ROCCI’s Monday Media Madness LIVE Team were there, meeting all the contestants and visitors and MATT COW ( Matt Stern ) wowed the crowd by singing a few favorite Elvis songs, and got the crowd moving.

The loud Buzzing overhead was heard, when Drone Pilot, of Clive Mc Intosh- Surveys, who specialize Volume Metric Surveying, flew overhead, capturing the event from the skies.

As the day progressed, with a collective happy atmosphere, team building, music and friendly competition, the Judges started their scrutiny by judging the Potjies, and anxious contestants went all out to impress the judges.

This year’s Potjiekos contestants, superseded their best, and being a judge for the potjie for 10 years, this year’s pots were the best ever, the standards have been raised and the contestants have outdone themselves, well done to all” said Head Adjudicating Judge Isabel Steyn.

As the last Potjie got judged, and the Judges went in for deliberation, the stage got set up for the upcoming prize giving, the anticipation of contestants was electric.

On Sunset the contestants gathered around, to hear who won, as the Judges appeared on stage.

Last year Vega took the championship knocking Kia Motors of their reigning throne of three years.

In First Place. Reclaiming their winners spot KIA MOTORS – Team “ KIA MADNESS “ winning first Place with the overall score of 98.33%. Martin Ludeke was overwhelmed with his win, tears of joy filling his eyes and he reclaimed his “throne”.

With the winners announced, the sun set, contestants packed up leaving behind once again a memory of a spectacular day.

ROCCI would like to thank each and every contestant, participant, sponsor, and visitor for making this event a huge success.
